Baked spaghetti layered with ricotta and mozzarella, crowned with a Cheddar Bay biscuit topping and brushed with garlic butter. A 9×13 that feeds a crowd.

Serves 10. Prep 25 minutes, cook 55 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz spaghetti noodles, uncooked
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 16 oz ricotta
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Biscuit Topping

  • 1 box Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Steps

  1. Heat the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook the spaghetti short. Boil the spaghetti a couple of minutes less than the package calls for — the noodles finish cooking in the oven. Drain and set aside.
  3. Brown the beef. While the spaghetti cooks, drop the ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat and crumble it well.
  4. Onion, garlic, seasoning. Add the diced onion and keep cooking until the beef is fully cooked. Stir in the garlic and cook 2 minutes more, then stir in the salt and pepper.
  5. Sauce it. Add the marinara and stir well. Add the cooked spaghetti and stir until all the noodles are coated in sauce.
  6. First layer. Spray a 9 × 13 inch baking dish well with cooking spray. Scoop in about half the spaghetti mixture and spread it out evenly.
  7. Ricotta layer. Stir the ricotta, the 1/2 cup milk, and the Italian seasoning together in a mixing bowl. Spoon the mixture over the spaghetti and spread it even, then sprinkle the mozzarella over the ricotta.
  8. Second layer. Spoon the rest of the spaghetti mixture over the cheese.
  9. Biscuit topping. Pour the biscuit mix into a mixing bowl and set the seasoning packet aside. Add the shredded cheddar and the 2 cups milk and stir until no large lumps remain. Pour the batter evenly over the spaghetti in the baking dish.
  10. Bake. Bake 50–55 minutes at 350°F, until the biscuit topping is nicely browned. Take the dish out of the oven.

  1. Garlic butter finish. Stir the biscuit seasoning packet into the melted butter and brush it over the biscuit topping. Let the casserole rest about 5 minutes so the topping soaks up the butter.
  2. Serve. Slice, serve, and enjoy.
